Werewolves in Kelley's universe or 'Otherworld' I should say have many typical
traits associated with werewolves, although there are many who do not.
Her werewolves are a pack with a hierachy system, the pack can change into a wolf and back again at will. Although in her
world this process is very painful. Much like all the werewolves myth, it is possible to be 'infected' with the virus or gift
of the werewolf by being bitten by another werewolf.
But originally all werewolves prior to Elena were all male. It was believed that it was impossible for a werewolf to be female.
In wolf packs there is usually an Alpha female and Alpha male breeding pair, however as female werewolves are a very new idea
then this is highly impossible. In the American pack the 'Beta' Clay, the Alpha's adopted son becomes the breeding male with
the only female in the pack.
Unlike many stories the werewolves in Kelley's books do not become half-man like creatures in popular myth. they also do not
transform back to their human form when killed, nor is it essentual for them to be killed with a silver bullet. anything that
would kill a wolf, or a human can just as easily kill a werewolf in either form. another major diffrence is that unlike werewolves
of popular myth, Kelley's don't transform, or Change, at the light of the full moon.
