Chapter 3 – Fireworks and Blood

Wolfe Creek had a population of about 700 all American boy-neck-door type people. The town had started up in the middle of the Mormon revolution by those lovely folk and had been almost blooming ever since. There was an industrial factory at one end and a timber mill at the other, along with a tiny, almost none existent police force and a small but very full shopping centre. Wolfe creek was prided on its all American football team and baseball team and high pass records in High and Senior school.
In Wolfe creek bars closed at midnight, the annual football match on Fridays was everyone’s high light and women needn’t fear murder in the night light, more like her next-door neighbour, who’d they’d know since child hood and was simply messing around.
That was mainly why Kirsty and Luce had chosen this town, not just because Stone Haven called to them, b7ut because the town was so small no one would want to bother the European strangers up by the forest. Whose family seemed to get bigger every six months.
Now as Kirsty was completely British and couldn’t grow out of things she’d grown up with, she’d driven into town with Trey and Hawk earlier that day and raided the store for the most fireworks they could. Hawk and Trey didn’t understand because they where American. But November the 5th, Bon Fire night, was a must for some of the pack. Loud bangs, bright lights and pretty colours where what you needed sometimes. So now she stood, forcing one rather large orange and blue papered rocked into the ground along side a few smaller ones. Ludi was doing to same a few rockets down. Seeing as they where the only two English werewolf’s they were the only ones outside. The rest of them where American and watching from the shelter of their rooms, or the kitchen. Just a bunch of dogs who hated big bangs.
It made Kirsty laugh that the were all basically petrified of the noise, but they could hunt and take down animals almost twice their size and weight, but they where scared of a little bang and lights.
Kirsty stood back and lit the first rocket, as Ludi lit the first one at her end, jumping back as they sailed into the air they both grinned and began letting of the others as they all banged and did their little show of lights. They loved this it was amazing. The lights the noise, it almost felt like England again. Almost.
Though the mist of banging and joys of laughter from Ludi and Kirsty, a long low howl came from inside the trees. They both stopped jumping around and listened,
‘I though everyone was inside?’ Ludi asked and Kirsty frowned, ticking off everyone inside her head.
‘they are,’ turning to face the house she beckoned Hawk and Amy out of the kitchen, ‘go and see if everyone’s inside,’ Hawk nodded and turned around, running off into the house,
‘What’s up?’ Amy asked and fell silent as a gun shot sounded out of the house. Almost instantly every wolf that was inside came slamming out of some exit, windows and doors.
‘What the fuck?’ Trey said, the dominance air bout him raising instantly, he was already unbuttoning his shirt. Kirsty knew what he meant to do, change and go bounding into danger.
‘I don’t know, who’s missing,’ she looked at their faces and knew, before she got to the end of the line who was gone, Simon.
They all changed, bar Luce and Amy. They would stay in the house to wait, seeing as both of them where high in the pack an Alpha and a Beta and both being able to hold their own in a fight and win, they where prime candidates to stay and wait to see if her came back, and give the signal. One short high howl. The rest began their patrol of the area. Kirsty could already smell blood on the air, even before she changed she could smell it and no doubt the rest could. Hawk had changed to his hybrid form and was circling over head, using his hawk sharp vision to search out Simon or the shooter. As their wolf vision was so different to human they could see better. If she was in human form, Kirsty wouldn’t be able to see Trey to her left and Ludi to her right, both with noses to the floor, the same as herself.
Ten minutes passed and she could just smell blood all around, then it became more direct. More concentrated at she turned North-West into the forest. North-West was heading towards town. She barked and brought the others attention to her and then began to run, sniffing the ground every now and again. They where heading towards Wolfe Creek and that was what Kirsty did not like. If Simon’s scent lead to him and the mass of blood, and it was any where near town then it wouldn’t be a good thing.

3 years ago – Somewhere in New York

She could smell blood. Not werewolf blood, but human blood. It was a stick sweet smell and it tasted just the same. Shivering slightly, Kirsty drew her arms around her body and kept her head down as she headed down another black alleyway. She was looking for Aaron, but just couldn’t seem to find him, and the smell of fresh junkie jacking up didn’t really help.
Aaron was a junkie as well, the type of junkie that drank from the vein of a human being. Aaron was a vampire, a tall, white haired black eyed vampire that preyed on the weak and gave Kirsty a bed to sleep in at times.
‘Aaron?’ she called weakly into the darkness. Rubbing her chin with the back of her hand, dry blood fell off and she hardly noticed. The front of her shirt stuck to her chest, sodden with blood,
‘Wolf? You smell of blood,’ Aaron’s slightly German sounding upper crust voice sounded out through the alleyway, bouncing off the grubby walls and echoing around her. She shivered again, drawing into herself slightly, keeping her thoughts clear from him, ‘why do you smell of blood little one?’ he asked, stepping out of his shadowy hiding place, ‘why? Tell old Aaron,’ he cooed at her, bending low to tilt her head to look into his dark eyes,
‘I-I killed a man,’

Now - Stone Haven Forest

Kirsty was the first to the scene. With fresh memories pouring though her brain she ground to a halt, almost tripping over the mangled bloody mess before her. She blinked, looking at the mangled body, trying to figure out what in gods name it was. Trey and Ludi came out of the bushes slowly, heads bowed as they sniffed around the area, circling Kirsty as she sniffed around the body, nudging parts with her muzzle. Over head, hawk let out a shrill wolf-hawk cry and all three werewolves looked up, scanning the trees around them.
Simon came crawling out from the bushes, in human form, blood covering his black hair, face, chin and what chest they could see.
‘Please,’ he muttered. Trey barked and growled ears flat against his head, fangs bared and lips curled back. He’d rather rip him to pieces. Simons stink covered the bead thing before them.

Kirsty was the first to change back while Ludi retrieved Luce and Amy to join in the trial of Simon. It was obvious that he’d killed the person or what ever that was in the middle of the sort of clearing. As he lay on his back, trey, still in auburn wolf form, stood next to him, light eyes clouded over with anger.
A pack rule, never kill a human. As that was what they were presuming the thing to be. It seemed to have found limbs and a mashed in head. A slim figure and a shapely one too. Simon had killed a girl. And got himself shot in process. There was a large bullet hole in his left thigh and one lower on his chest, where most of the blood had come from. Lucky the wounds weren’t going to kill him, just cause him a lot of pain.
As she bent low to the mangled bloody mess, Kirsty heard the bushes rustle and Ludi, Amy and Luce step through to join them, almost instantly Amy dived at Simon, gripping his arm and breaking it in three places. He screamed and no one went to help him.
‘Amy,’ Kirsty muttered and the smaller woman came to join her, ‘Would you say this was human?’ Kirsty rolled her eyes up to Amy’s face as she crouched next to her.
‘Yes, yes I would say that. What would you punish him by? Death-‘
‘No please nooo,’ Simon moaned in the back ground
‘- or banishment,’ Kirsty stood and Amy copied,
‘Trey,’ she said and the large auburn wolf nodded, latching his teeth into Simons wounded thigh and dragged him towards the female alpha. He let go and backed off to join the others as they formed a sort of semi circle,
‘Simon you have committed a felonies against the pack. We all took the oath to hurt no human unless necessary –‘
‘She saw me change!!’ he screamed, trying to pull himself up from the ground, ‘I did it to protect the pack,’
‘NO!’ Kirsty yelled, her anger rising, ‘you didn’t do it for the pack, you did it for the fun off it. I know what you have done in the past Simon!! No young girl wanders this far out to the forest. Not this far from the town, you killed her, probably raped her as well, I know who you were Simon don’t forget that,’
‘she asked for it, always flaunting around like she owned the town,’ he was muttering to himself, lying back on his back on the ground, almost on top of the dead girl, ‘she asked for this, if it wasn’t me it would have been someone else, she asked for it,’ it seemed he’d finally snapped, finally gone over the edge. Kirsty wondered for a second what would they be if she’d stepped down and let Simon be the third alpha, would they all have ended up like this? Raving lunatics who though all pretty girls deserved to be ripped open and devoured.
She turned away but stopped as she heard her pack go for the live meat,
‘No…no death for Simon, he’s banished –‘she turned back, ‘- do you hear that Simon? Your banished, if you ever come back to this land again I will disembowel you personally,’ she left then, followed closely by her pack. They left Simon with the body, left him to be discovered and shipped off to a asylum.

An hour later Kirsty slipped into her shower and turned the water to scolding how, letting it hit her skin and burn her. Of course it didn’t really burn her, but gave a sort of tingling feeling that soothed and comforted her, washing off the dregs of the day, dirt off her feet from the trek back to the house, blood off her hands and knees from examining the body, strain on her back from everything she was that day. Closing her eyes and leaning forward, Kirsty let the water cascade down over her head and back, running over the rivets and curves of her body, over the curve of perfect hips and smooth butt then led into strong long legs. She heard the bathroom door go and didn’t look up, simply lent into the water more. The shower curtain rustled and Treys body slipped in behind hers, his hands running up her thighs, one arm wrapping around her middle, the other still playing over the water on her leg. He kissed the back of her neck, burying his nose against her warm wet skin. She sighed and lent back, letting him move against her.
His lips found her eventually, now they where both under the water, Trey’s chin length auburn hair messing in with Kirsty’s almost blood red hair, they kissed deeply, tongues playing over one another, bodies pushed against one another, his moving along hers and she didn’t protest, even as someone knocked at the door and called out to her, both growled in reply and sent them packing, treys mouth ran down her neck nipping and kissing her skin lightly as she lent back whimpering in pure pleasure.
Suddenly her feet left the water and trey’s strong arms where under her legs and around her back, she kissed his chest, curling one hand around the spray of dark auburn almost ginger curls across his muscled chest. Trey threw her onto her own bed and following her, the bed creaking a little under his weight, his body over hers, he didn’t hesitate much, but moved against her in fast movement, her legs wrapped around his waist, arms and hands clawing at his back, nails digging into flesh and leaving fresh claw marks. But Trey didn’t protest.
They moved within each other for what seemed like forever then lay side by side, trey now asleep, one arm flung over Kirsty’s stomach, and a leg wrapped around hers. She sighed and brushed a strand of red red hair out of her eyes. Her sight and face still misty with love making. Easing herself out from under trey she went to his bathroom across the hall and showered again.
